Studio Visit with Ian Afif

October 29, 2025

There's a quiet poetry to old objects. They bear the marks of time, carrying traces of the people and places they've passed through. Few understand this better than Ian Afif, an artist, musician, and curator with an intuitive eye for the beautifully unusual. We spent a morning with Ian at his showroom and studio, Jaspa, which is tucked inside Toronto's Chinatown Centre.

Every object, art piece, and curiosity at Jaspa seems to hum with its own tale of how it arrived there. The collection is ever changing as things are sold or new finds are added, yet each visit feels familiar. Jaspa is less a store and more an expression of Ian's way of seeing.

Some of the most special pieces at Jaspa carry the weight of time. A softened edge, a faded tone, a layer of patina that enriches the original maker's craft. They remind you that beauty isn't always about perfection, but about presence.

Every painting, sculpture, and piece of furniture in Ian's space comes from a different time and place, yet they all share the same quality. They make you pause. They make you feel.

Ian's showroom is located at 222 Spadina Ave Unit 23B in Toronto's Chinatown Centre. Hours of operation are "by appointment or by chance", though you can find him online any time at @jaspa.shop.

Ian is wearing our Burgundy Marinière in size M.
